Jay DeMerit had a dream of playing in a top European league. The problem was he had no money and no prospects in the United States. So what a kid from Green Bay decided to do was
grab a backpack, his beat-up cleats and a few bucks and head oversees to do whatever it would take to make it.
The road was littered with obstacles – American soccer players are not well received across the pond. Jay kept pounding away despite no pro experience and no contacts. Then he got a break. Someone saw his raw talent. He went from the lowest level of soccer in England, living in an attic eating beans and toast, to captaining Watford (unheard of for an American), a team in the top flight of English soccer, to starting for the US Men’s National Team at the World Cup in South Africa.
Once again we are reaching out to ask for your help, as this film is as much yours as it is ours. Our goal is to promote soccer and get Jay’s story out to as many people as possible, with the hope that it inspires people on all levels to reach their dreams… and of course entertain people with a great film.
We are making these screenings an event where players, coaches, team-mates, supporter groups, and friends can come together and socialize and enjoy a good film.
